How to remove “toxic fumes” out of your relationships and purify your OWN life!!

We often tell people to stop doing what you are not passionate, crazy about or JUST feel lukewarm!. PLUS we say ” Common, get rid of relationships that are toxic.” However,  we must not only give advice but apply to ourselves.
We must learn to stop being toxic to ourselves. We must love ourselves first and then surround ourselves with people that serve our purpose.

Learn to say NO to fake friends who only use you for their gain, business partners who only see $$$ on their bank accounts and who do not give squat about serving you. IF we focus on loving, caring, serving in business truthfully with right motives, imagine what can happen…

While back I had a chat with my good friend Barbi, a mom of 3 boys who is also homeschooling her kids. Honestly I admire this woman.  She knows where she stands. She lives with passion and she surrounds herself with the best people. I know it took time to see it and take “what it means to be yourself” inventory and I am so glad she did.

I think we all should choose the right track in life. Growing up in Russia I used to travel by train a lot and who lived in Russia can tell we love train! It is fun. Great nature scenes and fun times with new friends we meet and great chats and late night coffee or tea.

But the point is this.

When we used to get on the train station we had ticket in our hand and we knew what track to go, what train car to get in and what compartment to get. We had it planned out . We also knew where we would be traveling to. We knew exact destination. We knew how long it would take to get there and if we wanted express train, VIP class we had to pay extra.

That is why I wanted to bring two points in this post: In order to become successful no matter : life, business, job, you must have two things in place: clarity, knowing which track to get on, passion-love for what you do and stick to it.

Sometimes you must clean that path and get rid of situations, people, events in life that do not serve your higher purpose. You must truly ask yourself,”Girl what do you want”?, What do you truly believe in? Do you believe what others say al the time? Do you have your own head on your shoulders?

Ask yourself “Are people around me toxic”? “Is my thinking toxic”?

What can you do to make your life delicious and joyful? I met many wonderful people in life only after I got rid of relationships that were harmful and doors to new amazing people opened up. I met people who literally helped me to see myself in a different light and see my true passion that was clouded and not clear! I am so grateful for that.

When you decide to let go of toxic relationship with yourself and others just make commitment and make a decision. It is the process and you just need to learn to let go. Learn to do it every day little by little.
If you want to learn how to get clear you must know one thing, “Do you build your life, your business around your values or do you allow other people values to interfere what it is important in your life?”

Can a Press Release Be TOO SEXY?

Have you EVER thought about writing a press release?

Will innovative and creative PR methods be SEXY enough to attract audiences? What are the magic ingredients of an attractive press release? When do you write it? What are the things you should NOT do?

Let me ask you a few questions:
  • Do you have a special project that is ready to be launched?
  • Do you have a book that you want to release soon and start promoting?
  • Do you have an award you have received?
  • Do you have a workshop you are hosting or even planning to attend?
  • Do you have an upcoming live event?
  • Have you started a new business?
  • Do you have case studies (your clients, your company products)?
If you answered yes to any of these, then you have enough reasons to write and share your message!!
Here are few things to consider…

1. When writing a press release, make sure you point out what  people can learn from it… that is number #1!
2. Reveal your solutions. Show that what you bring to the table is VERY unique and innovative to the marketplace. Of course I prefer to tell stories that grab attention.

3. Focus on your niche. Who is your ideal market? Write as if you share news to them directly – right in their face.

4. Point out what kind of clients would benefit from what you have to offer.
Give away free product/report/consulting, etc.

5. Use expert quotes or your  own quotes. Use them at least twice through the story. Validate. Edify. Bring facts.

6. Point out what is “according to you”… reveal your knowledge and expertise.

7. Include 5 – 7 bullet points what you are covering as an expert, or what your product/coaching/service can do for your clients.

8. Include two things: compel your buyers to obtain a FREE product/demo/gift or something that brings VALUE and include the link within the body of the press release. Also mention what serious buyers can get from you: Make sure to include this if you want sales!!! A VERY IMPORTANT element!

9. Include what media can get from you: your interviews, speaking and TV appearance.

10. Include your bio. About 5 sentences with the link to your homepage – it must be within a press story.

In summary, give and you will receive even more.  Write a press release with passion in your heart!!

I can say that classic marketing methods which always work are sexy and attractive… but we can make it fun and entertaining!

And of course, research your keywords!
PS: only use 2 keyword phrases per release! Remember, your press release is a teaser, an appetizer to get to the main course; your PRODUCT!

What can we learn from  some of the best song writers like “Here come the Mummies” and cool music? I want to share 3 important PR lessons with you that I hope will bring more clarity, and how to build your business as a company owner!

Are you ready?

On Friday I was fortunate to meet a very interesting man who wrote songs for many well known artists. They were all Grammy caliber musicians. Many of them have won Grammys and some musicians were nominated multiple times.  He is very well  known in the entertainment world, a talented song writer, a producer and CEO of a publishing company, who was right under my nose here in Nashville TN!  During the meeting, we talked about our vision. We talked about being different and making a difference. We talked about being remembered, recognized and appreciated.

While talking about the project, I listened to a group called “Here come the Mummies'” during our mid morning presentation while he shared their story.  Theirs is a story about friends from a famous college who always wanted to play music together.  However, their careers took them in different directions. Each of them have won over 23 Grammys combined! Needless to say, each of them became famous.

But…

The dream to play together and feel alive never died! They decided to join together and secretly change their identities, creating a new persona with a new story and new songs! The group, “Here come the mummies was born…I thought how creative it was to do something like that. What amazed me the most was the fact that they NEVER gave up on their dream to play together. They changed the route… they formed a new plan! They became different and showed the world what ANYONE could do! The lesson learned?… the persona is important to be remembered by. The story of the group’s creation and their story of loyal friendship and faith was priceless! Their persona is what people remember. They wrote their own song, so to speak.  No one is like them!

Another important lesson I learned was that to be successful, skills are not the main focus. It was the story, the song that mattered the most, the song that took some musicians from being broke, working as waiters to selling half of a million CDs and being a # 1 hit !

This producer – songwriter and I talked about powerful, Grammy caliber voices that artists have. He said, ” The voice does not matter if the song is bad.  The SONG makes you popular and NOT your skills or your talent. People hum the songs we write when you pull up to the gas station to fill the gas tank. That song becomes THEIRS!”

In the world of PR I can say your story makes you famous. Most often, people become famous because of their story, not their rating, credibility or special talents. What is your story? Lets talk…

I remember a saying…Your success creates publicity…Yes it can be applied to celebs we know..I was fortunate to meet Mr James Cameron last year and have a dinner with him and his wife in Nashville where they hosted a fashion show and a fundraiser event.  Later this June I was honored to meet celebs at MTV movie awards from the media gurus, young actors to more established A- list folks.  They are known. They are being talked about.. Gossips..stories. publicity. They have THEIR publicity.  Their name and their success opens the doors and gets attention. They earned it with their success!!!

But…what about people who are brand new. Smart. Intelligent. Getting started.. What about them…?

Times changed. Business owners today use small communities and networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Ning even private communities such as Ladies Who Launch for women to make connections and build relationships.  As you know relationships are always been the main thing for big dawgs in PR world and marketing.

Without right connections you will not be able to connect to media and if your goal is to get booked on TV shows, be publicized in the top magazines and constantly get the best PR you have two choices.

  • One choice and best choice I believe is to hire a publicist, a PR professional who can do that for you, the ones who know how to do online publicity as well.

You must ask yourself if you were a customer would you buy from yourself.   People do not buy from ads they buy from loyal consumers. That is why the infomercials always have been the best method for business owners, innovators, product creators to push their products on t he market and reach more people.

It was truly the beginning of the PR wave. Then you might see them in the store saying “Seen on….” It was the best PR campaign idea to share stories and people bought it because they trusted the stories not the product benefits.

Now.. Why so many entrepreneurs, business owners do two things. They avoid publicity approaches or they quit before they see the end results. In the world where we want instant results we use the same approach to our publicity efforts. It takes time and realistically you must allow 90 days for publicity campaign to give you results you want.

Your goal is to build awareness of your name and what you do. Your second goal is to break ice with customers by serving, giving advice or tips.

Common sense, right?

But so many avoid it or keep selling their product. Get people familiar with you and what you offer.

That is what press releases that share stories give more publicity, bring long term traffic and authority.

Advertising does not bring authority to your business. It brings traffic, leads and causes customers to think about your product.

Well, cycle ends with PR again. They search for your name, your product and see the publicity given by third party PR directories, publications, bloggers and much more. They feel confident. They trust.

Who removed “face” out of Facebook?

“How to put “Face” Back into Social Media and why we don’t want “faceless” friends”

Have you ever had a “Facebook friend” who you’ve never seen what they look like? These are the kind of people who use their product or something else as their avatar and they are never quite revealed.

While back I had a heated discussion my Facebook wall about deleting Facebook friends who have no “Face” .  As a publicist it is a hot topic when it comes to Facebook publicity.  I personally delete individuals with no photo or use fake images to represent who they are.  I did not expect that this short usual note would bring over 69 comments and I promised my readers to write about it because I think I pushed everyone’s hot button. I am sure it felt like getting burned by “curling iron” and jumping from realizing it is HOT topic. People are afraid to talk about it and keep poluting their network with faceless friends.

People are afraid to talk about the problems with their  network of faceless friends…. I mean come on…… they have NO FACE!

Here is what I said “I am going to be deleting people with no facebook photos… We are here to connect with real humans and build relationships. So if you want to be friends please honor what Facebook is about.. It has “Face” in it.”

Wow in less than 24 hours 69 comments and my facebook friends expressed their views  and energy was very high. We loved our discussion and that is why I am writing.   We also talked about removing people with snobby attitude which is another topic by itself.

So who took the “Face” out of Facebook? If you really think about the true purpose of Facebook or any other social media platform you will see it is all about communication. It is sharing your ideas, thoughts, videos, stories, advice and much more. Facebook is growing rapidly and reaching over 700 million users. That is huge.

According the recent stats Facebook is much bigger than some countries. I knew it, we created an awesome city with cool people. We can build relationships with no boundaries no need for foreign passports and no need for visa approvals and long flights across the ocean. We can  meet our friends and learn about their life, their family photos, videos from their recent trips and feel what they experience.

Can you imagine being with your friends having coffee at Paris cafe or having a great coach teaching you the most cool business stuff, who lives thousands miles away but one mouse click away.  Have you ever thought  you would  be connected with hundreds and thousands of people using simple platform such as Facebook? You have just created your own little neighbourhood where you know your people. Isn’ it that powerful?

One word connects everyone is the “FACE”... Your face is your key to the door of powerful connections. Your image, your persona is what defines the true meaning of Facebook. People meet you by your face first and read about you second.  They connect with you by what you want your friends perceive you.

Establishing a persona is MUST. You are not a commodity. You are a BRAND!

Personally, for me creating a personal brand and being authentic is always the only way. It is about representing what I want to be known for on Facebook. When people mention my name, I want to be know as the creator of “SmokinHotPR Ezine”, the girl who came to America with 200 bucks to her name and started her life and business from scratch and created a new spin on PR  and inspired business owners to re-spark the fire with Online PR.

What do you want to be known for? What is your persona?  Think about it. For example every time I think about Facebook I think about Mari Smith. When people talk about shoes on Twitter I think of Zappos, and if I want to learn about wine and branding, I think of @Garyvee on Twitter with Wine Library.

The power of the “Face” carries true meaning of Facebook. It is about being authentic. It shows your values you have in your business, family and life in general. Using the right “face” you will connect with the right people. You will never have to lie to people who you are and your network will consist only of people who are your reflection. What do you see in the mirror? What do you want your friends to be like?

Facebook is about MEMORIES. Can you create photo albom without photos and faces?

Facebook is about MEMORIES. Memories you have created with your friends, school mates, college friends and you have reunited. It is a true union. Facebook is also a place where memories are created. It is about true connections, new friendships and sometimes I heard people finding their true love on Facebook. That could be another story! Your story is a memory you leave for people. Your face becomes your footprints!

Then why in the world people forget to put a photo or use images that have nothing to do with they represent.

Some people can argue and say we represent this company brand. Great!  Wonderful!  Then create a separate Facebook fan page, but remember no matter if you are CEO of the company or run a small bakery in town of 2000 people, everyone wants to know you. People constantly hear the teachings of false teachers who preach on how to use the Facebook and they confuse people.

I believe having no photo for long time or using fake photos is disrespectful to your friends on Facebook. Plus it is like showing fake ID when you are asked for. Honor the rules of Facebook and you will reap the amazing rewards of beautiful connections. If you don’t care or do not get it then it is a lie life you want to live. You do not see the true picture of what Facebook is about or any other social networking community from Twitter to Ning or even Myspace.

Even one of the top PR experts, David Meerman Scott made on his blog about US Airforce. It was called “The US Air Force: Armed with social media” The point was that fear sometimes keeps people from being personal and I think that if you choose to be on Facebook then you need to be YOU and not somebody else image or fake ids. If US Airforce can do it and encourage everyone to use it then you can feel safely to use your photos.

He said that that if US Airforce encourage their people to use social media being top security government agency then why in the world people find excuse not use real faces and do not use social media correctly as it is intended.

Yes I touched the nerve and glad people liked it. We are about connecting with real people not vitamin bottles or a picture of ocean or your cat. Nothing wrong with these photos or images but they have to serve its purpose and be in the right folders.

My advice : If you are truly serious about connecting with the right people and want to build successful relationships and make solid business connections, then you MUST clean your friends list and create an open space for the right people to join your inner circle. Once you de-clutter your facebook community you will feel relieved and clear about your purpose in life. You will be able to build your brand using your own photo and what you represent. Be you! It is much more simple and do not require to spend extra energy to be someone else!
