Well, honestly, I do A LOT! Do you ever get an idea from something you’ve seen or heard that makes you have a good chuckle to yourself thinking, “that would be hilarious if I could do that”? Well, that is EXACTLY what I did when I saw a new show called “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”! It was the year 1995, and ALL the kids were CRAZY about it!

I was in college at the time and had just started another semester in one of my Television Production classes. After seeing it for the first couple of times, I thought, “Man… that would make a GREAT funny spoof! They always have some kind of battle…but it always looks like it’s in a local PARK!!”.

When I first started TV Production, I noticed how old and run down all of the production equipment was (due to the near nothing budget of a private university!) and decided right there and then, that this was going to be challenging. Sometimes, certain things encourage creativity… well this was one of those times for me! I decided to let my GOOFY SIDE take over and concentrate on funny content. I chose to put my energy and creativity into the content of what I was going to make and NOT the terrible equipment!

TRUE CREATIVITY will come alive when there are no walls to contain it! That is why I always tell everyone, that during the “brainstorming” process, NEVER knock an idea out, no matter how crazy it may sound! Why?!? Because that crazy idea might branch off into another idea that turns out to GREAT!!

So, what’s my point?? Don’t knock your “NUTTY SIDE” down… because THAT is where TRUE CREATIVITY lives!!

The man who taught me the greatest publicity lesson..

“Are you ready to create a long term celebrity status and be in the spotlight?

I has a privilege to meet an amazing man, the man behind the brilliant movies Avatar and Titanic, Mr. James Cameron. He has taught me a huge lesson.  Just recently I stumbled across my photo I took with him at the fashion event in Nashville and I witnessed him being in the spotlight for the entire evening. However, what I saw was the man who wanted to have life, talk about life and children, his trip to Russia and not his movies. Our conversation was not about his movies but him and his life. We talked and shared stories of Russia, his research on Russian submarines for his masterpiece Titanic, our kids and homeschooling. Believe it or not I was VERY happy that I did not have to talk about movies. His publicity  does not portray him as a man who has any life but a man who only has HUGE passion for movies along with all gossips you read!

The point here is the stories we share today, become stories readers see in magazines and then online, via social media networks and even on my own  YouTube  channel.

We created stories that stick. We created memories that are saved in the archives of our brains. That is EXACTLY how our publicity works.

Let me go back and give you overview of all changes that have occurred in the business world in the past years…

Times changed. Business owners today use small communities and networks to make connections and build relationships.  As you know relationships are always been the main thing for big dawgs in PR world and marketing.  Without right connections you will not be able to connect to media and if your goal is to get booked on TV shows, be publicized in the top magazines and constantly get the best PR you have two choices.

Without relationships your business is dead

Here is one thing I want you to remember before you start promoting your product or service to the public and spend money on PR and marketing campaign. You must ask yourself if you were a customer would you buy from yourself. People do not buy from ads they buy from loyal consumers. As you can see from my story above about Mr Cameron, his success is his publicity.  Movie fans trust him as the movie genius and they will buy everything he has to offer to the world. His name is his publicity!

Think for for a moment about the infomercials… They have always been the best method for business owners, innovators, product creators to push their products on t he market and reach more people. It was truly the beginning of the PR wave. Then you might see them in the store saying “Seen on….” It was the best PR campaign idea to share stories and people bought it because they trusted the stories not the product benefits.

My PR advice: The celebrity status is not overnight deal and your publicity is not going to give your an overnight success from the very moment your clients see your face. Build your reputation, share your value, give and you will receive!

The magic word of a successful publicity campaign is TRUST. Building trust is taking time in every area of your life. Today in social networking communities we build trust by connecting with people we want to know and contribute to their community. We give advice, comment and share our knowledge. We become the source of the information that they cannot get anywhere. Media notices us and buyers notice us. Everyone talks. They share our stories, our content with others. It goes viral and it stays there! That is what publicity does for your business. It sticks!

One thing you can be assured about…

Your journey to become well known or famous does not need to be complicated. It starts with a very simple formula that can stir up interest and bring more attention to YOU. Keep things simple. Remove what does not serve you and do not resist simplicity.

First three things you must know.

1.   Who you are

2.   What you do and if you really love what you do

3.   Why it is important for others and  you as consumer first and then as a business owner

I cannot believe the Sunday is here and it is almost the end of January!  Every weekend I go to my favorite bookstore and spend few hours there. It is my family tradition.I can live in the bookstore if I could! I always joke with a Barnes and Noble friends who know me and my family by name. I say “I need a new resident card” I have got a real green one and now I need a BN card..Who knows! I might inspire the owners of Barnes and Nobles to give bigger discounts and special VIP club membership!

Well, yesterday I grabbed the magazine called Celebrity and it was all dedicated to Oprah, her FAITH, HOPE and SUCCESS story. On a very first page she said “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate”

To my personal surprise I found out that Oprah won the the Miss Black Tennessee pageant and she represented WVOL a local radio station.  She continued her career in Nashville on WTVF- TV as a youngest co-anchor.

The 3 Cs of Positive Publicity: Clarity, Creativity and Creating New You!

Imagine if you can really be what you always wanted to be in 2011!

What  keeps you from becoming YOU and having it ALL? What makes you think you are NOT able to do that? What does your clarity, creativity and creating new YOU have to do with the best publicity goals for your business?

Last week on my brand new Nashville radio show “Life With Tatyana” I decided to cover the topic of “The 3 Cs of Successful Publicity” and talk about something that is often been so abused and overrated by many self help gurus, so that you do not get it. It is about CLARITY, CREATIVITY and CREATING New YOU!

We all can have clarity, be creative but the biggest problem is that we often do not know how to bring it to the light and see it alive. That is why during my radio show I decided to talk it about it and be very blant with my listeners. I am not a perfect speaker and I would prefer to speak the truth, the way it is because I DO care about my readers. My readers are my clients and loyal fans who support me and encourage me. I want to say thank you to you all!

First, lets talk about clarity…

When we think about clarity we think about a complicated journey to discovering it. Believe me I used to believe that it would take me decades to get clarity. That clarity is like wisdom – comes with age.. Well to be honest I want my clarity now and not when I am 75.  When I reflected on my life and my PR business in the past year, I saw my success was not about my A list connections, great fashion, new ideas, hiring a mentor and even few to coach me to do what I need to do. My business growth was MY DECISION. It was because I became very clear. Well, it was not always clear. I had days and even weeks of distractions and disappointments, but I made it. Clarity became such an important aspect of my life. It became the center of everything I did, planned to do and achieved.

Clarity brought desire to be more inspired. It gave me motivation to go after my goals and sometimes I did not know how. Clarity was able to force me to see myself in the new light as a strong and a powerful woman without a being superhero gal! I did not need to be a TOP GUN to become famous. I needed to be UNIQUE to public, to people around me and get them to laugh, talk and engage into what I had to offer- my ability to write, connect and make them smile. It was my ENERGY that got new clients moving into my direction. It happened because I was very clear where I wanted to be.

Secondly, the creativity became the most important element of my life and so it should be for you my friends. Creativity does not always mean you have to be an artist, a musician or famous fashion guru. Creativity means expression of words, feelings from the depth of your heart! It is about finding new and fun ways to express your personality. That is why it is important in publicity to establish persona. But again – if no clarity, no creativity means your persona will be fake one. Not good right?

Third, new YOU: Your new persona is about to evolve! Make sure you have become clear of what you are now, what do you want to  be known for in the next 90 days and the next 12 months and even next 3 years. Knowing  your inner goals and having peace that it is the right thing for your business whatever it might be is going to bring the most positive publicity for your business. Right energy, right contacts, right everything and it means REAL results and more income for you! Your publicity will always reflect your relationship with yourself! I know it on my own experience. When everything you do feels right in your heart, you will be more patient with yourself when it comes to understanding that a publicity campaign success is not overnight deal. It is a journey to discovering how YOU can be MORE for yourself and your customers.

Publicity Campaign Steps- How to Set a Budget And Timeline

A Publicity campaign does not have to be complicated and stressful! I love this quote by Albert Einstein, “The only reason for time is so that everything does not happen at once”. I often think about how many business owners do not realize that from the VERY moment they make a decision to go into business and create a plan, for some magic reason, they forget to include a publicity campaign. They do not realize that publicity is a key ingredient that they are missing and try to add it only later!

Here are some key elements of a publicity campaign:

In order for any publicity campaign to be effective, you must start early so that you have more time to mastermind with your PR planning team, your biz partners and if any changes have to be made you can do it with NO EXTRA STRESS! Also, it allows you have time to build true business relationships without pitching it or being rushed to do so.

Secondly, the interesting thing about business owners who are working with investors often think of a publicity campaign as a luxury component for their business and never include it or barely mention it in their business PR plan!

Third, you must be a pioneer in some area of your business. Contact your local and regional media and show them that you have a media plan.  Show them your unique approach! For example, styling tips for petite women …or weight loss without a low calorie diet… Whatever makes you stand out as a pioneer or be the first to tell the news the better off you are!

You could ask me, ” Tatyana, What will a publicity plan do for me in the next 90 days?”

Simple answer- FOCUS

1. It becomes a checklist of your plans

2. Gives you idea of a realistic budget

3. Makes you take a look at your values and what is important to you.

4 . Gives you a Long Term vision of your branding. You will be able to ask yourself, “Is this WHAT I want?”

5. Know your available cashflow to spend on the publicity and other promotion methods

6. Gives you an idea of the time frame to plan the PR campaign

7. Opens doors to NEW approaches to grow your business

Tip #1 It really does not matter if you are doing a product launch or want to redo your business plan and add a publicity ingredient, creating a detailed  marketing plan outline will give clarity to your business partners and yourself!

Your next step is to set a STRUCTURE. Without structure, nothing in life will work or function. Your publicity plan might remind you of a beautiful dance performance. When I was a ballroom dancer performing in front of thousands of people, all that the audience saw was the final result. I could not go on the stage without practicing and knowing the exact steps, the order and what to expect. In the end, each performer had a role to play in the dance performance. With your publicity, every element of a publicity campaign should be balanced out, planned out.

Write down the steps to write your press releases,  list of your events and the content of your column articles that needs to go out.  Then, you must write down these important steps:

1. Your publicity campaign budget (monthly or 90 day budget, including the next 6-9 months)

2. Your personal involvement or outsourcing

3. Marketing research and the time you need for it

4. Cost of each publicity campaign assignment

5. Review all your marketing tactics and when they should each start, in order for everything to flow right

The truth some PR experts do not want to tell you is that it can take longer and more work is involved once they start working, because business owners always want to add something or do it differently.

Public relations campaign experts recommend that you calculate each assignment cost and DOUBLE IT. Do not focus on the budget as much as on your final goal! Relax and be flexible!

Last tip: Start your publicity early, think of each component of your campaign, your cost for press stories, submission, radio interviews, content creation (your time is your money!), your events, your contests and so on. Some business owners want to keep it simple and some want to have a huge publicity campaign to reach a bigger audience!
