My “Mad” Story: Speaking foreign language is not always serving its best purpose in the conversation

Last night I was shopping and I got quite mad! YES I got mad!!! I showed my pride for who I am and were I came from. I never forget where I came from. I came all the way from Russia thousand miles away, across the ocean and thank goodness did not have to take the boat. I took plane all the way to JFK.. Yes I am in a bitter sense of humor today but that is ok. I am being ME. If you do not like it, do not read it. I am being AUTHENTIC!

Well today, one older gentleman at Deli was talking to a lady at the counter how he could not stand certain foreigners when he went to another country and funny he talked about France and said how frenchmen were very rude to him. I asked him “Why is that?” He told me in his errogant voice that they got mad he talked English to them. I almost said, Sir, Duh! Of course they will get upset frustrated! They are people with language different from yours…. People want to be understood. People want you to speak their language. They want you to appreciate them and value them. They want you to get IT. They want you to know what they think and feel.

I could feel spark of anger or frustration burning inside of me but I kept cool and said,” Sir, well you both spoke about the same thing but on different languages and both got frustrated and angry and left without really getting to know each other and giving a chance to each other to make things work.” He did not put effort in learning their cutlure, habits, what they think and how they think about same things as you do. He gave up. Sounds familiar to your life? We often forget how to properly engage into conversations especially when it comes to establishing our name on Twitter, FaceBook or any social media platforms. We forget to speak our customers, clients language. Culture of clients makes big difference in social media conversation and knowing it will help us to establish trust and authority and turn our our conversations in profitable relationships that can bring us monetary success!

That is what happens in our business and personal relationships. We become ignorant, we give up, do not try. We break promise not just to others but to ourselves! We lose focus why we came to where we planned to come to start with. IF that man tried to learn little bit of other language he would be appreciated for trying. Isn’t what we try to do business and relationship?

We try and see if it works. We tease ouserlves for short time and give up. We do not take time to learn about our competion, customers and our mind goes BLANK! We do not see anything but rejections and frustrated people around and we can feel frustration boiling in our blood. We go from the business to business, from one customer to another, from one relationship to another thinking it is THEM. Let me tell you and be honest with you because I CARE. LEARN to speak THEIR Language and you will have the best customers, the best relationships and they will always seek you and become what you wanted them to become in the first place. I am sure it happened to you when you stretched your mind, got out of your comfort zone and took time to develop relationship by learning LANGUAGE. In reality you changed, you became humble to learn more about THEM and in return you gained respect and trust!
Remember the WORDS have power and what you say and how you say will define the outcome.

Thank you

  1. Going out of our comfort zones, accepting new information that comes our way and being flexible enough to allow change is very difficult for an ordinary person to achieve. The big hindrance is our own stubborn clinging with our old ways and preferring ignorance over wisdom. No wonder few people succeeds in this life. 🙂
