A Lesson I learned from A Cheesecake Factory: How to define your voice, keep it and create success!

(my son love for cheesecake but his smile is priceless!!)

I was flipping the pages of my favorite magazine Reader’s Digest and I saw an article about the very famous restaurant chain Cheesecake Factory. My family loves to celebrate  birthdays in a Cheesecake factory because we know each of us can enjoy a special treat that day, like Tuxedo cheesecake, great food and a relaxing ambiance!

In this article David Overton shared how he had turned his parents business into a billion dollar restaurant chain. The cheesecake became the winner!  It all started with a recipe David’s mother  had…His mother was asked to make cheesecakes for her husband’s boss as Christmas Gifts.  He loved it so much that he asked her to bake them for his friends. His mom started making cheesecakes and deliver them to restaurants in Detroit area!  His parents had a vision to start a cheesecake empire and they did.  They sold everything and moved to L.A to launch their dream business!  They believed it would change their life…

And it did….

Their cheesecake brought them best publicity and  attracted the right investors to open a restaurant. An accountant by the name Bill Kling believed in them and raised enough funds to start a restaurant. He believed in the product- cheesecake which he often enjoyed. Do you surround yourself with  believers in YOU and your products?

The dream came true. Their decision to move across the country and start a new life was the best decision they have ever made!

Feb 25, 1978 they opened very first restaurant without a sign, an ad or grand opening in the upscale part of Beverly Hills.  Still people stood there waiting in line and restaurant was packed!  Their belief in what they had to offer and simplicity of the menu attracted clients and kept them coming.

The product success became their hottest publicity. People- their customers created the best reputation for them.  As David said ” it is all location, location, location. But once you grow- it is people, people, people!”

According to the research, today this restaurant chain is a billion dollar chain, and it costs 7.5 million dollars to open a new Cheesecake Factory.

Let me ask you a question…

What is your dream? What is your voice telling you to do? Do you listen to it?

Remember that if you follow your inner calling, your true voice will be heard by millions. You will attract the clients you deserve. Your belief in your product, service and yourself will create the light and the brightness around you that people will be attracted to your confidence, faith and charisma.. You will create an irresistible publicity!

Simplicity of what you have to offer, the same way a Cheesecake Factory started, will attract clients and keep them coming back! The key is to know your flagship product and build around it as a piece of cheesecake.  Start with the sweetest offer and add more as you go…Remember one important factor I always encourage my clients to focus- know your persona…What do you want to be known for in  your community and around the world?

Then you will NOT have to deal with issues like “Can you hear me? Do you see me? Do you believe in me?” Your passion will become your voice. Your passion in what you do will break all the barriers and be your secret weapon in overcoming challenges. Your passion will define your voice and be the key to your success.  Success will be  your publicity!
Enjoy the week!

  1. Thank you Tatyana…such a great article again!! Yes- there is nothing more attractive than seeing a person following their calling, it is the only way to succeed in a true sense. When we follow our calling, we are creators and there is no competition…Loved it!! 🙂
