A couple of days ago I was in the Pottery Barn store and I stopped by to check out new office accessories. A young lady was looking at the same chair and we started talking about it, its quality and how fun it would be to have one in the office. We discovered that we were both moms, business owners and our conversation lasted almost an hour. We really connected from the first time we opened our mouth.

Monica asked me what I did for living. I said,” I teach how to combine public relations, social media and bring you more online publicity, new connections and new buyers”.  She looked at me with a little bit of surprise and curiosity and said, “Do you use Facebook and how do you find clients with Facebook?” She also mentioned she did not want to start selling products from her gift shop to her Facebook friends. She was afraid to sound like a salesman.

How often do you feel this way? We start a business, we have products to sell, we create Facebook profile or a Facebook fan page, but we forget how to connect with our first customers.  We think we need to do something extraordinary to be successful. We hire the best expensive web designers, put fancy colors, widgets and then feel stuck. We forget to go back and learn about people!

What I discovered the store owner was a brilliant business woman. She was already using social media strategies in her store without using Facebook but we were able to see the power of Facebook marketing for her business to bring current clients and create the loyal customers community who will pay the premium price.

I asked her one FINAL question to help her to understand the power of social media: if she remembered her first date. She started laughing… I am sure it brought memories. I told her it worked the same  way on Facebook. You learn to connect with people first and show them how unique your service is to them! You find everything about THEM by being real and genuine.

An Inspired Publicity-Strategies or Heart?

“Do we follow heart or we follow strategies given by people when we feel inspired to write”?

When I think about being inspired to write, to create, I always envision something that is so light and so easy.. It is coming from our heart. We feel the urge to share the best and speak out our heart out. Nature inspires us, sunset inspires, beauty around us and beauty of people we meet inspire us to write, create and awaken new life within us!

One day my oldest son Timothy told me that he got ideas in his head about creating comic books. He thought of the creative ways to express who he was and I saw it was so fantastic. I never questioned him if it was the good thing. I knew it came from his heart. He loved what he wrote. He loved what believed in. My little one never stops drawing. He always masters his skills, sharpens his artist talents. I see their inspiration and makes me feel inspired to be like them. What a great lesson to learn from your kids. All they know is to follow their inspiration that comes from their heart!

When it comes to creating inspired publicity there are NO RULES!

Are there any specific strategies that we must follow to create an inspired publicity?

NO…

None..You probably ask me why? Why not? Marketing does require strategies. It does require a plan. I know we must have a marketing plan. We must have strategies and they are our daily actions we take….

He discovered what his purpose was in life and took action! He has an amazing online and offline publicity and even some folks did their best to point out his negative qualities. It comes with territory right?

What about you? How do you build your online presence?

Have you felt you were stuck in the old marketing ways, using traditional newspapers, magazines, radio spots? I do not mean they do not work today. They do.  However,  there are many proven, classic methods that you can use that are cost effective, long term and stable.

What are the most effective  online publicity methods ?

Publicity Method # 1: Press Releases

Press releases are not old fashioned method. They are back in fashion and now you can write various types of press releases: from SEO, Video PRs to Social Media Releases utilizing all the social networks, SEO tools and video channels. You can FINALLY become your own PR and build credibility for your product/business/company brand.  Did you know press releases are more effective than PPC ads? Imagine how much people spend a day on PPC ads and think about how good search engine optimized press release can do for you short term and long term.

Before you write a press release you must follow this simple and basic formula:

Make a list of 5 Ws and H:

  • Who, Where, What, When, Why and How.
  • Who is doing what for a company, a person?
  • When, where and why they do it?
  • How is the product/event being done?
  • What are results your customers can expect?

Your Press releases must answer these important questions:

  • You must be specific and show why your info product/service is exciting for your buyers and what it will for them.
  • You must show how your new product/service can bring CHANGE to your customers life comparing to other products available online.
  • What are specifics of your product/service?Do you have case studies to back up the product offers? Show them

Guidelines to writing an effective press release

  • Determine the angle of the story: writing about event, product launch, expert revealing the truth.
  • Determine your buyers: what do they do on a daily and weekly basis and their lifestyle. Write what you know about them. It is your profile exercise. It will help you.
  • Your goal is to focus on your headline and press release description: that is what Google wants to see and what your customers will see. Create controversy and compelling to turn heads in YOUR direction.
  • The Purpose of Online Press Release: It is about seeking and informing buyers where to get what they need to get fast and efficient.
  • Your press release must be objective: write a press release in 3rd person. Writing about yourself will do more harm to you than you think. Keep your excitement under control.. You can express it in your quotes.
  • Write Quotes/your opinions: It is something you think about, said and mentioned to others. Use quotes as John Smith said, “your quote/opinion”
  • Media coverage: If you want to get media coverage explain why your product is unique to public and include few examples.
  • For Buyers: Give away  a FREE report, FREE e-book. Plus BONUS for the customers who act FAST.
  • 500 Words: Keep under 500 words but no less than 400 words. Your customers and media do not have time to read but they have to see if it is what THEY want. They will say YES or NO.
  • Interest score: If you were a journalist, a customer, would you read it and share with others? Make sure it has hot topic, debate, controversy. Good news is not boring stories that everyone talks about but what people are AFRAID to talk about.
  • Where to Submit Press Release? Submit to Paid Press Release Submission Services and Free submission services as well.  My favorite one is PRWeb.com, 24-7PressRelease.com
  • Plus new method is Social Media News Releases

Publicity Method #2 : BLOGS:

  • Blogs are HOT. They do wonders for online publicity. Businesses use them to communicate, engage, share stories. They are more flexible than press releases. Blogs are personal.
  • Allows to build relationships with customers and other bloggers via consistent blogs posts .
  • No need to be a professional writer: Education, information and sharing news via blog in more informal way.
  • Great way to get recommended by other bloggers and social media pros to get fat piece of viral free traffic.
  • You can add many videos and images which are awesome for SEO purpose and brand awareness
  • My advice is to host your own blog. Use hostmonster.com, godaddy.com and other hosting services to get your WordPress blog set up. Once you set up the blog, now you can add content, articles, insert videos you made and even add press releases as a blog post.
  • Blogs are great to get ranked fast: with proper targeted keywords, links to authority sites with your fresh content published on  hubpages, ezinearticles and video channels you can get your content shared fast!
  • You must determine your niche and focus on only ONE area of interest. Don’t try to mix passion for cooking and your recipes with your home business or your passion for sports. You can create several blogs if you wish.  Write about what people want to buy over and over.
  • Focus on 2 keywords per each blog post to be safe. Make it natural. Search them using the tools. The less competion and more searches better it is for your customers to find your post.

Here are some basic guidelines:

  • Set up a YOUTUBE Channel:

  • Make sure you add your photo and profile with solid description of what you do and what you offer that nobody has. Include links to your MAIN website.
  • If you have topics you have written about, break them into short mini stories and it will  be your video stories now. Use what you have at the moment.
  • Research what your completion does and what their viewers talk about and love about their product. However you must be unique and keep your own style. At least you know what people are searching. Keep it simple
  • Your videos must be short 2-3 min for promo videos and 5-6 min for educational videos.
  • Remember YOUTUBE is a teaser platform to get them to your site.
  • As with any blog story, press release you follow same rules, headlines and description must carry main keywords as first words in the sentence and paragraph.
  • Make each video description long enough. Use all the space they allow if you can.
  • I use simple camera to make short movies and I do use studio with my friend as you have seen my interview earlier today.
  • Windows Movie Maker is my easiest tool that I have got on my computer.
  • Get TubeMogul account. You can submit videos to different video platforms.
  • Find bloggers who love to use videos and comment on their blogs and their video channels
  • Use syndicated content communities

Online Calendar Community listing services offer mobile marketing, event submission forms and more.  You will know who comes to your events. Videos just add personal touch. 1. Determine your targeted market:

You must write press release that targets one targeted audience at a time (example, working moms, young moms, executive moms, internet marketers under age of 30 and so on…

2. Determine the angle of your press release:

Very important step that you need to take. You must determine three areas in the topics you are about to write about: if you are going to talk about your product/service, you as expert, something you are known for in your community or your niche and the third type of press release is announcement about events such as workshops, special classes, speaking engagements, radio shows.

3. Research keywords.

Very important step once you determine what you plan to write about.
Choose two main keywords you want to target. If it is more than that then you are going to look like spammer trying to stuff keywords.

4. Positioning of keywords:

Make sure your primary keyword phrase is the first phrase in headline or title.

5. Controversy

Description of your press release has to start with controversial topic/problem and solution you want or hope to provide. Description must have your primary keyword as your first words in the paragraph

6. Your Unique Service:

The body of press release must start with summary of description, problem and instant solution that has never done by you, your service or what your product can do for them, no one has done it. Your press release is about revealing facts, truth, controversy that has been discussed in media and your professional circles. Very important to use this angle to be different and stand out.

Headlines: The Truth about Social Media Marketing YOUR GURU does not tell you, “The Truth on How to Become Sales PRO YOUR MLM Coach DOES NOT TEACH YOU…” YOUR BOOK SHINES NEW LIGHT and SHOWS BETTER WAY….” CONTROVERSY is THE KEY

7. Instant Solution: You present the PROBLEM everyone had for long time and now you give INSTANT SOLUTION and it must be accessible right in press release via free download, free teleclass registration and free consultation

8. Your products are NOT:

You must share bullet points of what your program/service/book/event is NOT. Include the bullet points with an expert quote which is YOU.

9. Facts and Bullet Points: You must share your main facts about what you offer and always positition yourself as an expert in your field…Magic words, As an expert in……(niche) (your name) sees the main (problem..) and shows a solution that is different from others. (Name) gives hope, provides better way and new way and so on….
Tip: You must show what you have to offer is special and unique and why it is beneficial for the specific target market

10. Action Steps:

You must include action steps. I call them demands from the customer and media.

A) You must give them access to your free bonuses and it must be on your website, your newsletter that they can download and also point out that that there are more bonuses for serious customers, business seekers and so on..Include your website in this important section. B) You must include contacts for media so you can get booked for interviews, shows, classes and so on.

11. Your BIO:

You must have bio about you and include 2 paragraphs at least with links back to your sites and how customers reach you including your office phone number.

12. Extra spice:

You must hyperlink keywords to your blog posts, articles and videos that talk about the same topic and related to keywords you plan to target

13. Quotes: Make sure add your quotes or quotes of experts. Very important element of press release to use for a great interview effect.

14. Juicy Sauce:

Add Videos and Images. They help with SEO and plus establish faster connection with your customers.

15. Submission:

Submit press releases to paid PR directory and then to free one about 4 days later

They only use social media pitching their products. They give up. They move on..But…There is a better way!

You can use free online public relations strategies today known as PR 2.0 strategies that combine the power of public relations with social media, such as Twitter and Facebook platforms.  The wide  usage of videos, images, stories, blog content and interaction with the right people strategically can be and will be the essential part of free pr campaigns. You must put all together in one package and do it right!

In my recent interview with Jason Kintzler we were discussing the growing influence of PR 2.0 and how a business owner can share stories via PitchEngine, PR 2.0 publishing platform.  Each business owner can have free pr and become a publisher on its own and reach their customers directly without paying high dollar public relations campaigns fees.

Yes you can do it fast if you have right connections in place!

It is time to see new possibilities that PR 2.0 can offer in a world wide web for your business regardless the size of your company, the size of your company wallet and the tools you have! PR 2.0 allows you to awake creativity in your mind and use the most important element is your relationships with your customers. Natural, easy and simple!

Bad Publicity Myths: Does the “Entrepreneurial Woman” Even Exist?

Ready to stop bad publicity? How can a woman become a entrepreneur who is respected, admired and considered sought after the authority in her field?

We have discussed that with my business partner, Angela Giles, founder of new project we are working on together, “Local Celebrity Formula”: Empowering Women To Become Super Star In Their Community. The project is focusing on teaching women business owners how to create the positive publicity, public relations buzz and of course empower them with personal growth education and training.  As you know, one of my passions is to empower women  by providing public relations, PR 2.0 consulting and coaching right here in Nashville TN and that is why I wrote this message today.

Just think about how media, movie industry portrays “entpreneurial women”. We immediately think of mega stars as Oprah, Martha Stewart, Ellen, Rachel Ray… We follow the publicity that is on the front shelves of the stores to discover the latest, the best and even the ugliest news!

But…

What about women who own small businesses, mid size companies and run the large corporations or women who are famous  authors, fashion designers? Do they get the publicity they deserve or do they simple believe it is not important to them because they are famous in their customer eyes? Publicity comes naturally and they become famous without expecting.  Take for example, Stephanie Myers with her amazing story of a mom writing book for herself and becoming Hollywood celebrity and best seller!

Even images of successful women given to us by media are not always pleasant. We envision women who run million dollar empires as rude, harsh, give-me-everything attitude!  Why is it so attractive to write bad publicity?  Some look like a villain with a gun!


They get less media coverage, less written about them and our society creates labels for women that often hard to remove.  They get that GLUE that is hard to remove and very rarely can replace with new vision! Even in Public Relations today we see more and more women doing the heavy work, writing, working behind the iron doors and only 5% women are known as top publicists.

Few years ago the study was done  about women running a business and what they discovered was shocking. Only 10% was written about women in major newspapers. Publicity was strictly about  businessmen who are creating major changes in the business world. That is good and wonderful I can say.. Personally again it shows no publicity or a real example of bad publicity about women who are changing the business world.

But what about role models women business owners can follow today to build their dream? Women have dreams to stay at home with kids, have a business, travel, serve community. They have honorable values and goals. It is often not considered the best publicity piece. Magazines, TV news, Hollywood do not always consider them financially beneficial to share stories of moms but at the same time reality shows are gaining momentum.. Real people want to know real people. One place that brings the best publicity is YouTube where you can become famous and known really fast!

Where can women go to learn about existing role models? Where can they get publicity, the right advertising for their business and express their passion?

Here is a list of some resources that hopefully can stop all bad publicity “woman-villain” and show the beautiful light women shine !

Women in Business section offers information on women role models, women leaders, challenges and other organizations that can help women in business to take their business to million dollar level.

Publications such as “Enterprizing Women” is a great choice

Ladies Who Launch present local chapters where women gather once and twice a month, attend training events and mastermind events to help women business owners with new business, marketing ideas.

Amazing chapters that show support, training to free and paid members. In Nashville, TN where I live and build my public relations consulting business Ladies Who Launch chapter reached several hundred women total!

BraveHeart Woman is an awesome community to get inspired, and become inspired to others!  I have recently joined them and love to connect with you there.
